How do I open an SMSF Trading Account and CDIA with CommSec?
If you don’t have a CommSec Share Trading Account for your SMSF, you can choose one of the options below:
Opening a new trading account & CDIA for new CommSec customers
- Click Sign up on the top right corner of the CommSec website or click here to view our Sign Up page
- You will be taken to an online application where you will be asked how you'd like to trade. To open a CDIA with your trading account, choose With my own money
- Whe asked which account type you'd like to open, select SMSF
- Complete your application and provide us with any required information
Opening a new trading account & CDIA for existing CommSec customers
- Log into your CommSec account and navigate to Portfolio > Offers Apply > Applications or click here to view and manage your applications
- Choose Add a new trading account and Commonwealth Direct Investment Account and click Apply Now
- When asked which account type you'd like to open, select SMSF
- Complete your application and provide any required information to us
Opening a new SMSF cash account (CDIA) for an existing SMSF trading account
- Log into your CommSec account and navigate to Portfolio > Offers & Apply > Applications or click here to view and manage your applications
- Choose Add a Commonwealth Direct Investment Account (CDIA) for trading and click Apply Now
- Select the SMSF trading account that will be linked to your CDIA account for settlement
- Complete your application and provide any required information to us
- Where you don’t have an existing SMSF share trading account with CommSec, you will be asked to open an account as an Individual Trustee or Company Trustee. Please ensure you choose the trustee type that is consistent with your most recent SMSF trust deed.
- The ABN for your SMSF is mandatory for all SMSF applications.
- Further instructions will be sent to you and other applicants to finalise the application.
Once finalised, we will endeavour to establish your account within 2 to 5 business days. For new CommSec customers, you'll be able to access your new account once your CommSec Client ID has been sent to your registered email.
